SAN DIEGO CITY DIRECTORY.
ORDINANCE NO. 160. An ordinance for the protection of fire alarm wires and Boxes in the City of San Diego, and fixing the penalty for cutting or sending a ma- licious false alarm from any of the boxes to the Fire Department. Sec. 3. It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to send in from any box or bell a malicious false alarm for the purpose of calling out the Fire Department for their own amusement.
Sec. 4. It shall be unlawful for any person to willfully or mali- ciously remove the key to any alarm box from the place in which it is kept for the use of the public.
Sec. 5. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall, upon conviction, be guilty of a misdemeanor, and fined in a sum not exceeding one hundred dollars ($100) and not less than fifty dollars, or imprisonment in the City Jail for a period not exceeding three months nor less than thirty days, or by both such fine and imprisonment. WARNING. It shall be unlawful for any person to drive any vehicle of any kind over any line of hose, or to drive or ride any horse or animal over the same, or to stand thereon, or in any manner interfere with any line of hose at a fire.
HOW TO TURN IN FIRE ALARM.
The Key to Fire Alarm Box is inside a small Iron Box with glass door, alongside the large Box. In case of Fire. Break the Top glass, take out the Key on inside, open the door of the Large Box. You will find a Hook on the inside, which is to be pulled down as far as it will come and then let go. If you put your ear to the Box you can hear the machinery working. You can then be assured that the alarm has gone in.
HOW TO SEND IN AN ALARM BY TELEPHONE
First of all, keep cool; then call up "Centra!" (don't try to get the Fire Department): tell operator where fire is, giving the street and num- ber correctly. Then have some one stand out in front of the building, so as to iniorm the Fire Department where the fire is.
The operator at the Telepone Office will notify the Fire Department.
Example— Ring. "Is this 'Central?' There is a fire at 47 D Street. Understand?"
'Central' will then notify the Department.
